KASHIMAWO
This portrayed the life and times of the presumed
winner of the June 12 Elections, Chief MKO Abiola.
But like in most of my plays, it decided not to be
obvious in its approach, but went about asking
Olodumare very telling questions about the
tragedy that was his life. Audiences were taken
back to the misfortune that met his father with the
death of so many of his siblings almost 20 and his
resort to go to a deity to get a child despite his
strong Islamic bent. The release of the child that
was named Kashimawo and the prediction that
came with his birth.
Most of the story relied on the dialogue between
Olodumare and Esu who was surprisingly playing a
different role not agreeing with the untimely death
of Chief Abiola.
It was such a beautiful play, that brough tears to
the audience which included Kola Abiola and
Tundun Abiola biological children of the Principal
character.
Chief Abiola’s philanthropy, his passion for Nigeria,
his phenomenal wealth and his struggle to reclaim
his mandate were all well highlighted during this
play. Egba culture and ethos were also well
splashed during the play. A must watch
